The 24th October is the global day of climate action.

Join Forest & Bird and other groups around the country to make a stand for our climate and give the urgently needed push (or should that be shove) to improve New Zealand's comittment to reversing the impacts on our wild places and animals.

Check out climate action group 350.org and gee up your local Forest & Bird branch to get involved.

Our plants, animals, insects, fungi - the works - need a voice too.

With the critical Copenhagen meetings looming (7 - 18 December 2009), urgent action is needed NOW.

Here's a few light hearted examples of why a louder voice is needed - coutersey of Toles, Washing Post illustrator.

Brilliant cartoon. It sums the lack of political will to do anything. Many species here in NZ are threatened by climate change including tuatara, rock wrens, yellow eyed and rockhopper penguins and sea lions. I personally have noticed the weather getting weirder. More thunderstorms, more torrential rain, fewer sunny days in summer, stronger winds. These are making it harder for me to go out and look for wildlife and even Christmas shopping. The only place that has reduced its emissions is Europe. Why doesn't the rest of the world emulate what Europe has done including more trams electric trains, solar power, and car free streets. Rising bus fares and a poor quality bus service in Dunedin which is where I live is making the problem worse by encouraging more vehicles put on the road. Again our right wing government is doing nothing to restore our clean green image. As for the mentioned species will they be left to die out?
