As far as I'm aware , Nic Vallance (new to F&B staff and based in Chch) is speaking for F&B at the march on Sat. Lots of you'll know Nic from her days in DoC publicity work, especially "Meet the Locals" TV series. A good draw-card - do F&B proud Nic!!

  4. Hi guys,
Yep Anne, I will indeed be attending the March against mining and speaking at it too. Really feeling passionate about this issue (spent part of my childhood in a national park http://blog.forestandbird.org.nz/nature-nerd-extraordinaire/) and can't stomach the idea that our most precious places might be dug up for a short term gain (or not... figures on the economic benefits to mining don't stand up). Not when we can bank on our $21billion tourism industry - all based on 'Clean and Green New Zealand'.

I really hope anyone in and around Auckland is coming to the March - i'm feeling a wee bit nervous - but i promise to give it my best shot! Will be so cool to see fellow F&Bers there.

oh and on the mining issue...

Have a look at Mark's blog on the the overinflated values of the 'gold rush' our government is predicted http://blog.forestandbird.org.nz/cancel-the-gold-rush/#more-1480

look forward to seeing you all and hearing you give nature a voice!
    Best,
    Nicola

Be great to have you here Nic. Just got an email from Waitakere branch saying they'll have a F&B banner for people to see and join with them if they want.
As they say to people, wear your F&B hat, T-shirt, tie (apparently they had them in days long gone by), greens, planting clothes, whatever...just be there.
All strength to you all. Kia kaha.

Apparently the F&B office is still looking for a few good keen F&B members to don bird costumes for the march. If interested, please contact Nick at the Auckland office, 302 3901.
