Anti-Mining Film: Prospects, Wgtn, 19th May

  1. Green party activist, feminist, mother, mediator, advocate - and stand-up comic, Catherine Delahunty will be hosting an anti-mining film evening on Wednesday 19th May.

    There will be a screening of Prospects, a 25 min film by Alister Barry about the 1980s anti-mining campaign in the Coromandel; a short film clip about Paparoa National Park and a slideshow of threatened places in the Coromandel and Paparoa. There will be an opportunity for questions at the end....

    Venue: St John's Hall, cnr Dixon and Willis Sts.
    Time: 6.30pm Wednesday 19th May

    Probably more importantly than any of those, is Catherine was a staunch, staunch member of Coromandel Minewatch in those 1980s days when they were hugely active in fighting mining proposals on the Coromandel. The "chain-yourself-to-a-digger" type of activism that was going on at the time, Catherine was part of the local community that saw all that happening. So she's already experienced and has a unique personal perspective. It will have been one of her Coromandel mates probably who had the placard at the recent anti-mining protest march which read along the lines "I can't believe I'm fighting this shit again"
