At 5.30 on Tuesday 2nd June there is an art exhibition about native birds at the Whitespace Gallery in Ponsonby. The gallery will be collecting donations for Forest & Bird, to go towards our national Dawn Chorus campaign.
The art exhibition is open to the public (no invitations are necessary).
The inspiration for this exhibition came when one of the artists was visiting Fiordland, hoping to hear the Dawn Chorus there, but she heard no bird sound because of the decimation of birdlife by rats and stoats. It prompted an event in support of Forest & Bird who continues to work towards correcting this diaster.
PLEASE SUPPORT THE EXHIBITION.
The more people who are aware of the support by F&B for the return of the Dawn Chorus, the better.

Presumably why these artists chose Forest & Bird as the group to support is because they see F&B as actually doing something positive to counter the reduction in bird song out in the forests...Call them pragmatists....I'm sure it's not a label that these artists get charged with and accused of being often....

Just a reminder that this art exhibition's preview is next week (2nd June).
Next Tues 2nd June at 5.30-7.30 an art exhibition called Chorus which supports F&B opens at the Whitespace Art Gallery at 12 Crummer Rd in Ponsonby. You are invited to attend with family and friends. All donations made at this exhibition preview go to Forest & Bird
The exhibition continues to run from 2-27 June. The gallery's opening hours are 11.00-6.00 Tues-Fri and Sat 11.00-4.00 .
The inspiration to support F&B came after one of the artists, Nic Moon, visited Fiordland to hear the bird chorus, and, hearing none, realised the devastation which pests like rats and stoats have had on the birdlife in our forests. She returned to Auckland and with others has organised an exhibition in praise of NZ's native birds, and to support Forest & Bird for it's work in restoring the Dawn Chorus.
Please support Whitespace to support F&B! Everyone is welcome. Donations made on the opening night at the preview will go direct to F&B.

Don Binney is well-known for his previous work of NZ native birds, including artwork which F&B has used. Nic Moon's work on Waiheke has been widely advertised. Greer Twiss is a highly-regarded artist.
