Auckland tweeters thriving

  1. Tweeters are still thriving in our pest-controlled haven on Auckland's North shore.

    Over 60 property owners are working hard to banishing pests from the Lucas Creek area and as a result the bird population is flourishing.

    Here's the result of this year's survey -

    The most common natives were (in decreasing order):
    1. tui
    2. pukeko
    3. silvereye
    4. fantail
    5. welcome swallow

    Mandy, the way I read that graph is that there were less birds seen/heard in 2010 than 2009?

  4. Thanks for your query. The explanation for the drop in numbers is that the results for the two years are from a different combination of properties. Even so, the trend is similar - suggesting that the current level of pest control is sustaining bird numbers at a certain level. I hope this helps.
