I've been keeping up with a blog on another website as well in a discussion about this subject, and here's the latest post from a person from Palmerston North on it about taking a petition out into the public - people like this are an inspiration!!

" It's amazing the feeling out there about this issue. I have already got over 100 signatures in 3 days and the people who are signing in support of protecting the parks are across every race and age and income level. It seems to be something that transcends all barriers. I have had business men, old age pensioners, students, very well dressed workers, and low income people signing. I just ask everybody that walks past if they would like to have a look and see if this petition is something they would like to sign. I get about two thirds of people saying yes. I have done it at my sons school and in the street downtown and the response is the same. It's not hard to do and anyone can print out some forms from the site. I printed out 10 and I will have to print out more for tomorrow. So just go for it. We've only got until Wednesday week(next wednesday) to get in these things and it costs nothing to send in so anyone who feels moved Go for it!!!!!.:)"

  2. Yeah, the whole idea has been wildly unpopular, the latest polls show that about 29% of people support it.

Frogologist Dr Phil Bishop has done an amazing job of drawing people's attention to the fact that we may well lose our frogs if mining were to go ahead.

I'm sure other zoos around the world will be seeing articles like this one from Auckland Zoo opposing the mining on Schedule 4 land http://www.voxy.co.nz/national/auckland-zoo-says-conservation-land-conservation/5/49256 - more Phil Bishop involvement....
