Guide to planting trees / shrubs

  1. Our work has just finished a day planting trees at the Pauatahanui Reserve and we have been inspired to carry on in other areas around our work and at home.

The only thing missing is a guide on how to plant native trees or shrubs - how deep to plant, the gap between planting, the type of protection in the way of stakes or netting and the type fertilizer to use, if any? Any assistance would be appreciated.

I realise that it's not in your area, but Env Waikato has some pretty good information about planting natives....maybe we could encourage other regional councils to produce similar for their local areas?

Hi, I am wanting to fence off some swamp land and water ways on a mates farm. I'm going to ask the Northland District Council if they can help with the cost of fencing, but was wondering if there is other assistance out there?

Try Ducks Unlimited, and QE11 Trust are the very first groups that come to mind.
Local F&B people might have other, especially local, contacts, so it may pay you to get in touch directly with the local branch.

Those contacts are here (click on the Assistance... link) - and I know this is Waikato - but it might give you some ideas about assistance and contacts.
