Hey there
I am a current nursing student in my first year at AUT university and I have to write an essay on a current problem in New Zealand which I choose the ocean and marine life. I have become a little stuck and wanted to see if any one would be able to give me a bit of a run down of the history of fishing and human impacts in New Zealand I have found alot of information about what the government is doing to rectify the situation but nothing about before the government bought in the qms and how bad the situation really is.
Any websites or advice would be helpful.
Cheers.
Bridget.

Hi Bridget,
There's heaps of information out there but can I suggest you have a read of our Best Fish guide Report. This has a nice introduction which explains the issues faced by our oceans. It is obviously focussed on our fisheries management issues and ultimately provides a tool for consumers to make good seafood choices that will help our oceans.
Please down load the reports from our website: www.bestfishguide.org.nz
Simply scroll down to the BFG downloads. The ecological assessments report gives the simple intro you might find useful including facts on the number of seabirds and marine mammals caught in our fisheries plus the number of sharks being legally finned.Posted 1 year ago #
