Kakariki proliferating

    Now that kakariki has won F&B's Bird of the year http://www.nzherald.co.nz/environment/news/article.cfm?c_id=39&objectid=10680321
    it's really timely to mention again that they're coming back to the mainland in the wild up here, and that after the aerial pest control at Motutapu they have been seen breeding on the island after a 100 year absence http://forum.forestandbird.org.nz/topic/kakariki-arrival-post-pest-control-on-motutapu#post-1212

    Kakariki is green! I got this photo of one just sitting on the ground at Rakiura (Stewart Island) You can see why pests get them!

    That green colour against the brown background is almost surreal! They're not exactly well-camouflaged from pests either, are they?
