I was reading the latest mag from Forest & Bird and a few articles caught my eye.

I didn't think much of the comment made by our so called Conservation Minister Kate Wilkinson at the Forest & Bird AGM about opening Schedule 4 land for mining. Kate Wilkinson described it as " incredibly interesting ". I wouldn't call the whole idea as incredibly interesting, more like incredibly dumb. But hay she is with National and they don't think when it comes to our environment anyway.

Also the article on the Powelliphanta in storage in Hokitika fridges caught my eye. I just keep wondering why more cannot be done for these snails instead of remaining in the fridges. Can an artificial environment not be set up somewhere to recreate where they have come from to some degree at a sanctuary or similar?
There must be a better future for these poor snails.

Finally I was reading about the Mackenzie Country which was rather sad, I hope it can be saved from the intensive dairy farming. We only have the one Mackenzie Country and people need to open their eyes to this and stand up to save it before it is too late.
