More dead sea lions!

    Yesterday F&B released news that sea lion deaths in the squid fishery are up 57% on last year:

    Rather disappointingly, the Ministry's reponse is one of fudging the issue:

    Efforts to protect our threatened NZ sea lions seem doomed if this is the kind of response we continue to get.

    NZ sea lions, already massively range restricted having once populated much of NZ's coastline, are in decline. They are in fact recognised as one of the world's rarest sea lions and it's up to us to prevent their extinction.

    How much longer are we going to sit a watch their demise at the hands of a few profiting fishers???

    Amazing that they can claim to have killed fewer sea lions when they have actually killed more. That's it, no more squid for me!
