Following on shortly after the Quintessentially Kiwi debarkle we now have a "music competition for NZ birdsong:

    www.doc.govt.nz/about-doc/news/whats-new/remix-the-sounds-of-new-zealand/

What bleeding well next, why don't they just get on with saving our fauna and flora and give up trying to win the hearts and minds of Nzer's - most have given up on DOC and the spin doctor of a DG that is lapdog to the Minister!

Maybe they're trying to make conservation appeal to more people? - sorry to say that we tree-huggers aren't very popular at all out there; seen as pretty "way too serious"/"no humour" by a lot of folk. DoC is definitely not the flavour of the month govt dept , so maybe they're running round like a headless chook a bit trying to find ways of keeping themselves here at all?
I actually feel a bit sorry for them being under such threat, and getting it from all sides.
I'd rather have them here than conservatuion be totally privatised, so I'll try to support them - unless thay do something REALLY bad for conservation. Liike spending more time winning hearts than getting conservation done.
