A NZ falcon was spotted in a Tauranga garden yesterday, and we wondered about both sightings being recorded by any group, and also about how common it is to see falcons in the wild this far north.

We think we saw one today about 10:20 a.m., flying fast and level and striking a bird in a conifer wind break. If made the strike and immediately fell back in flying mode and flew away around the trees. It was the right sort of colouring. Our sighting was almost level as the bird came in and hit below us.

Hi, yes most definately keen on collecting these sighting records. We have an Online Reporting Form plus much more at www.nzfalcon.org.nz would be much appreciated.
Though not too common we have had other sightings from the Tauranga area plus further north from Auckland.

Was pointed to another useful publication today http://www.nzfalcon.org.nz/uploads/NZDFS%20Report.pdf (although looks like the same 'base' link as from raptor)
