  2. Oh, it's a shame that Ark in the Park aint on there, especially considering it covers an area that is a lot bigger than Karori Sanctuary!

    Hi Cee-Jay
No-one knew about it. I tried to find out how to apply, and what criteria the global restoration network used for selecting the applicants it did, but, let's just say, the American lady who responded and I seemed to be talking different languages.., so after a couple of shots I gave up....8-)

    Pity.

One of the projects I'm involved in got selected. The criteria were quite rigorous and based as much on the scientific aspects of the project as they were on the conservation outcomes. I tried to complete the application myself but quickly ran out of grunt. In the end, DOC submitted it.

The selection, apart from from making us all feel good, hasn't meant anything in practical terms. There is no evidence that fund-raising is any easier and there has been no sudden surge in membership.

At the end of the day, we're not in it for the glory, are we? As my wife send once "Bugger the glory, where's the cash?"

And if my interpretation of one of the responses I got back from them was at all correct, it sort of sounded like that one was pretty much a one-off, and they have nothing definitely planned for any follow-on.
