What type of things get oil out of bird feathers? I need to know this for my science project.

Suggest you contact Kerri Morgan at Massey believe she is in charge of the national response to an oil spill (K.J.Morgan@massey.ac.nz)

Thank you - I have asked Kerri from Massey to see if she has any suggestions on what I could try. I am going to work with Grandad in the holidays to test different things on bird feathers we collect to see which works the best. I am really worried about the birds in the gulf of Mexico.

I am sure Kerri will come up with the right stuff for you to try.

Yes a sad state of affairs in the Gulf of Mexico but if you have watched the news they have a massive international team working on saving the birds and are having an 80% success rate.

Mankind and his demand for more oil is to blame - we note that BP put their prices up today!

I just had another thought Taylor, and that is to get in touchy with your nearest Bird Rescue Centre and/or zoo. If you live near Auckland, drop us an email to forestandbird@gmail.com (that's our branch emailo address up here) and I can give you a contact.
