    Apparently stoats account for more than 50% of kiwi deaths outside controlled areas, and of course they love to eat most native birds.
    As for them getting out to offshore islands, they can swim up to9 5km looking for food..

    We have since contacted this same researcher, and we're keeping the tails (in sealable bags in the freezer) for him to analyse off any stoats the F&B group traps on Traherne Island (which is in the Upper Waitemata leading out to hauraki Gulf)
    Be interesting to find out where these stoats might be coming from or getting about to in the waters there.
    If there are any other local places where stoats are being caught, he might be interested in them also.
