More photos. The roof goes on tomorrow. . Jon Wenham - the man who's running the whole operation - says the build is all going swimmingly and the 32 bed lodge should be up by the end of July.
Here's the latest pic of the lodge - and a dispatch from site manager Jon Wenham -
It's Winter, 2 degrees and snow on site, so the lodge has been "Christened".
Still good progress, GIB-Board and Ply Lining under way, and Cypress timber cladding was off-loaded during site meeting.
Final completion date has yet to be confirmed, but we're aiming for late July. It'll definitely be up by late August, so best for people to book around then......
Update: the Lodge will be completed by end of July and open for bookings from 9 August.
We will be continuing to take bookings through the National Office - n.seminiuk@forestandbird.org.nz until we are able to get TradeMe online bookings up and running.
We will be deciding on tariffs for members and non members shortly and posting these and other relevant information about the new Lodge on the website.
An official opening of the Lodge is being planned for mid October/November!
Those builders have been simply amazing in their work-ethic I hear. Come rain, snow, hail, sleet - they've been there to get the job done!!

How is a ski lodge ......Protecting our native plants, animals and
wild places, on land and in our oceans.
Giving nature a voice?
Ski lodge? None of the people I've been there with have ever had a ski-outfit in sight. It being a ski lodge never even entered my head once - mmm, maybe that says more about me than anything else?
One of the guiding philosophies behind Forest & Bird, and part of our raison d'etre is to get people out into nature.
During the summer, the lodge is used by groups wanting to do treks, or botanical tours of this alpine environment. And it's also used regularly by our kid's club so they can explore Tongariro National Park, so we feel it fulfills this function....
Hope that answers your question kukupa
Thats great to hear! It does answer my question, thanks. Go the lodge!
Remember the old F&B education camps of yesteryear at the old lodge?? Can't wait for similar to begin again!! That landscape is just so dramatic!! Maybe moreso in summer actually!?
Great to see some photos from the official opening yesterday http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=242156&id=137540437632
