Great to see the work going into Seaweek this year.
Here's the Seaweek National Site...www.Seaweek.org.nz
I imagine it'd be the same for each region, but here's the Auckland site..www.ecoevents.org.nz/seaweek

Beautiful, absolutely stunningly beautiful slideshow of marine piccies in that first link, Kirstie.
Does F&B exist in the far north?
Yup we sure do. But as always,.... the more support the better to keep us active and achieving results.
Check out the web page - contact for the branch is listed at the bottom of the page:

How about kayaking out to the Kermadecs kukupa? The link below is about the Kermadecs project, and Northland is the closest mainland NZ area isn't it?

Best places in the country to dive are around the coast up Top North of the country. You'd back me there wouldn't you kukupa?
Sure would Anne! Poor knights etc, but we desperatly need more marine reserves! The tourists don't even have one to go diving in within the Bay of Islands! Sad really!
Al Fleming's upcoming talk to the Gisborne branch http://www.forestandbird.org.nz/what-we-do/events/sea-week sounds interesting; it might be worth asking him about a follow-up about his talk afterwards.
Yes please do talk to Al. F&B are always working hard to get more marine reserves - and more importantly to get a good network of them throughout our waters.

Ahoy! Seaweek is kicking off in two short days. I've just posted a load of new events on the website. Wellington's marine group - Blue Wellington - have organised a bunch of interesting talks by marine gurus, if you're not so interested in sploshing around in the drink....
We had a really good day at our Underwater Clean and Beach Clean at Mount Maunganui! We had 20 Divers and another 15 or so surface volunteers!
We recovered amonst other things 76 Bottles, 14 Cans, 200$ Sunglasses, 20 Straws, 2 Shoes, 90 Fag ends, 2 Car Batteries, 9 Tyres, a 8m long railway iron ( which didnt budge even with 400lbs of lift bag attached ) and a plate from the 1920-40's, with 'Northern Steamship Co - Auckland' as the crest! Really great day with a lot of support!
Will upload my pics to my website soon - plenty of other underwater pics from the BOP there. www.shanewasik.com
Good luck for all other Seaweek projects!
An awesome clean up along Wellington's south coast last night. Local dive shop Splash Gordon's coordinated the clean up, collecting heaps of rubbish and a big platter full of cigareette butts - well over 2000!
