There was a good piece on Radio NZ this morning re: Fonterra's application for a 22 year extension to discharge pollutants into the Manawatu river. This river holds the unenviable title of NZ's most polluted river. Freshwater ecologist, Mike Joy argued that it would be better if the discharge was sprayed on the land. Fonterra apparently declined to be interviewed.....

Actually Mandy, that Dom Post article is a couple of years old (Trev's no longer the Environment Minister!). but it does show that the problem has not been addressed - and in fact has probably gotten far worse.
