Unswimmable rivers

  1. Bad news for all of you folks who are wanting to hit our rivers this summer - it seems that alot of them are unswimmable -

    The faceal matter in them is just too high. This is yet more proof that our clean streams accord just isn't working.

    The cumulative effect of industrial scale dairy farming is now becoming obvious.
    I have even seen an article in the Otago Daily Times by a dairy farmer showing concern about rivers being ruined. And now the latest government push is for more irrigation schemes, so the rivers are in for a thrashing under National.

    Some statistics:

    $3.8 million - annual salary of Fonterra' s CEO

    $0 - amount paid by dairy farmers to grab water from NZ rivers and pollute what little is left

    $58,500 - loss made by the average dairy farmer in 2008/09

    Unquantifiable - loss of quality of life for future generations

    I don't know why so many farmers don't see the benefits in planting native trees along there water ways??
