  1. Looky, looky here's a video of our critiically endangered Maui's dolphin frolicking near Waiongana River.

Forest & Bird has fought for protection for Maui's in this area, however fishers argued that Maui's didn't inhabit this area.

    Wooooo hoooooooo!!!!

Finally some irrefutable evidence that proves once and for all that Maui's do indeed inhabit the Taranaki coastal waters.

At the time of the debates on the Threat Management Plan, Forest & Bird branches, members and staff all fought hard to include the Taranajki region in the fishing restricted areas.

Alas we failed to convince due to some rather lud commercial fishing oices - despite previous sightings by commercial fishers around Bell Block and even further south.

Now we need to ensure the set net restrictions are extended south - as they always should have been!

Kirstie, can you give back the Maui's dolphin costume now? What do you mean, it's all wet?

No, good news...great news in fact. Although those fishermen might say the dolphin was just lost off the Taranaki Coast.....doesn't live there, was just visiting friends for Xmas...Yeah right.....

And I remember the response from the National Party candidates during question-time organised by F&B branches that if it ever was a choice between fishing interests and the dolphins, then the dolphins' protection would always win out....Time to put money where mouth is people!
