Atuanui Restoration Project needs help with some baiting this month and next at Atuanui-Mt Auckland. We urgently need more volunteers to help put Ratabate paste poison into our baitstation network. Our bait-lines vary in length from 600m to 1.7km long with many around the 1.2km length. Most include some steep and challenging bush country, but all are a good off-track ramble through some of Atuanui-Mt Auckland's best bush. The bait-stations on each bait-line are at 100 metre intervals, making up a 100metre by 100metre grid across the entire reserve. Medium fitness required.
People work in pairs for safety and must carry a compass for security, though the lines are pink-taped between the bait-stations. People do one bait-line per day (usually) and may take 2-3 hours per bait-line. We will be having baiting days on the weekends (either day) of September 12/13 and Sept 26/27, plus the weekends of October 3rd only, 10/11th, 23/24, or 30/31. We usually start at 9am from the Red Barn. If people want to come during the week, on a Monday or Wednesday in September or October, we can accommodate that too. If you can help us, please email kaiparaforestandbird@gmail.com or suzi@dialogue.co.nz . (For those who don't know - Atuanui-Mt Auckland is 300m high, and is 22km north of Kaukapakapa on SH16 just past Glorit, and we use the Kaipara Hills Rd entrance, abt 3km up from SH16.)
