Presented by the Otago Museum in association with NHNZ and Jonathan’s Photo Warehouse, the eagerly anticipated annual Otago Wildlife Photography Competition is one of Otago’s most popular photography contests, attracting upwards of 1,000 entries every year.

This year’s competition is set to be the best yet as a decade of photographic achievement is celebrated with an exhibition showcasing the top photographs from each of the past ten competitions.

In addition to the 2009 competition, past category winners will be back in the frame with the photographer of the best overall image to be named the amateur ‘Otago Wildlife Photographer of the Decade.’

The Overall Winner of the 2009 competition, chosen from all category winners, receives the honour of being named ‘2009 Otago Wildlife Photographer of the Year’ along with a $1,500 photographic accessories pack from Jonathan’s Photo Warehouse.

All amateur photographers living in Otago who have taken a great shot of a plant, an animal, or an example of human impact on the natural environment since 1 January 2008 are invited to enter. The competition is divided into two age categories – 14 years and under and 15 years and over.

    • Entry forms are available from NHNZ, Jonathan’s Photo Warehouse and the Otago Museum Information Desk. An electronic version can be downloaded from www.otagomuseum.govt.nz

    • Entries close at 5pm on Wednesday 2 September.

    • The winners will be announced at a prize-giving ceremony on the evening of Wednesday 23 September.
